The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is an agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) which administers federal funding to support local public transportation systems throughout the United States. Undergraduate, graduate, and law students can get hands-on transit policy experience through the FTA’s Diversity in Federal Transit (DFT) internship program.
In this 10-week program, you will intern full-time with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), either at their Washington, D.C. headquarters or at one of several regional offices across the U.S.
Your work may involve a variety of projects, including data analysis and management, research, report and article writing, presentation preparation, policy analysis, stakeholder outreach, transit planning, or IT services. Throughout the internship, you’ll be guided and supported by an experienced FTA mentor.
Eligibility
- Currently enrolled degree-seeking undergraduate, law, or graduate student in any academic area
- Must have completed freshman year of college before the internship
- U.S. Citizen
Compensation
- $6,100-$8,100 stipend as an undergraduate student $8,100-$10,100 stipend as a graduate or law student
- Roundtrip travel to and from the internship site city for non-local interns
- Fully furnished housing near the internship site provided by TWC
