An agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, SAMHSA, leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. SAMHSA's mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America's communities. Offered as a 10-week summer or 15-week fall or spring program, this internship is your opportunity to gain professional experience and chart your career path.
The SAMHSA Internship Program is specifically designed to equip college students and recent graduates from populations typically underrepresented in the public health field. Women, Veterans, LBTQ+, First-generation students, persons with disabilities, Asians and Pacific Islanders, and students of Hispanic Serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Tribal Colleges and Universities, are encouraged to apply.
You’ll intern full-time, five days per week at SAMHSA in Rockville, Maryland. You’ll discover how you can reduce the community impact of mental illness and abuse through a variety of fields.
Eligibility
- Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program (AA/AS, BA/BS, Masters, JD, MD, or Ph.D.)
- Preferred majors include public health, public administration, public policy, behavioral and social sciences, I.T., business admin, and more.
Compensation
- $5,000-$7,590 stipend, depending on length of semester
- Round-trip airfare when in-person internships resume. Housing (if needed) at a reduced rate.
