Hashtags
Hashtags are the main way Instagram sorts and categorizes your posts. They can help audiences find you and for you to crowdsource content! Clever use of hashtags can help you create meaningful ways to target more niche audiences/interest groups.
Top Three Tips:
- Narrow your hashtags: Instagram recommends users include no more than three to five hashtags per post
- Choose Wisely: Research trending hashtags, rotate hashtag, track success, routinely audit
- Create a brand campaign hashtag and follow your own hashtag to crowdsource content
When To Use This Feature:
- Crowdsourced Content, Polished or Branded Content
- Lasting Information
- Engage Followers/Build Brand Identity, Boost Brand Awareness/Expand Audience
- Follow Trends
Examples & Data:
- #IDPEducation: This is a hashtag that any of the offices in our network of counselors can use to unite the brand no matter what a student’s country of origin or desired destination. Using a broader hashtag can be a good way to connect to a larger community that you might not otherwise reach. This hashtag currently has over 20,000 posts! One of the most successful uses of this hashtag was in a non-marketing style post featuring a student success from our IDP India team. Take a look!
- #twcproud: This is a campaign hashtag we ask current students and alumni to use when posting about their TWC experience. We’ve had over 100 posts on Instagram using this hashtag ranging from our students, alumni, staff, partner offices and our own posts. Students can search this hashtag to see a non-curated and non-uniform view of the TWC experience and brand. Example post that used the hashtag #twcproud.
